About Ontour inschools
Bringing the benefits of live arts to all Queensland’s children
Ontour inschools underpins the live arts education phenomenon in Queensland. The program is driven by a commitment to providing quality arts experiences to Queensland schools regardless of geographical location or school size.
The program’s mission is to ensure all Queensland schools have the opportunity to access quality live arts experiences. Over the past nine years, it has brought the arts to an audience of over 4 million Queensland students from Brisbane to Mornington Island.
Supporting small schools
Each school year, QAC subsidises the performances for around 400 small Queensland schools. From 2009, QAC has sought further financial support to help subsidise these performances, implementing several initiatives to rally the funds so these students are not disadvantaged. In 2009, QAC rallied enough support from the Queensland Government and philanthropic support to continue subsidising performances for these schools. [read more]
Reaching regional and remote schools
Almost three-quarters of Ontour inschools performances are in regional schools. Each year, it reaches an audience of 250,000 children attending schools in regional Queensland, including around 10,000 children attending schools in remote areas.
To provide greater opportunities for rural and remote schools, Ontour inschools has further developed its Artists-in-Residence program, which offers bespoke arts projects of performances and workshops, and offers a list of accredited artists with experience in residencies. [read more]
Reconnecting with youth at risk
Ontour inschools is also the driving force behind a high-impact program that engages Queensland’s youth at risk, helping reconnect them with their communities and schools. They have been pivotal and resonating projects in each of the communities in which they are delivered. [read more]
