Supporting small schools
It is our vision, as a not-for-profit organisation, to provide quality arts experiences to Queensland children regardless of geographical location or school size. It is the only touring program that provides equity of opportunity across the state, upholding this commitment for nearly five decades.
We have been dedicated to subsidizing the cost of touring to small and remote schools to ensure no school is disadvantaged, performing for some 400 small and remote schools each year up to four times. Unfortunately, however, we are no longer able to continue this subsidy without the support of others. To help cover the costs of a performance in a small school we must now ask for a minimum charge of $600+GST. This is not ideal for Queensland Arts Council or for the many small schools that are already doing it tough in these current times.
In 2009 we rallied enough government and philanthropic support to continue reaching small schools of less than 100 students. This support allowed us to subsidise the minimum charge for some 400 small schools till the end of 2009.
Small Schools Subsidy Program
In order to support small schools that cannot raise the minimum charge of $600+GST, for 2010 we have developed a Small Schools Subsidy Program, which aims to source government, philanthropic and corporate support to ensure that no school is disadvantaged. This means, small schools, that are within our 2010 primary and secondary touring areas, can apply for a subsidised performance. [Read more]
